Anna G. (Garcia) Sylvia, 86, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 27, 2018 at Alden Court. She was the wife of the late Lawrence P. Sylvia.
Born in East Providence, RI, the daughter of the late Maurice and Alvarina (Costa) Garcia, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Mrs. Sylvia was a graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing and was employed as a registered nurse at St. Luke's Hospital and later at Sacred Heart Home for 25 years until her retirement.
She was a member of the Bierstadt Art Society.
Survivors include her 2 sons, Michael Sylvia and Joseph Sylvia, both of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Theresa Haydt of East Providence, RI and Ann Marie Arruda of Worcester; a brother, Robert Garcia of New London, CT; a sister, Lillian Rogers of Spartanburg, SC; 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth Lolio, William Arruda, Jr., Kristen Geary, Kelci Vezina and Tyler Sylvia; 2 great-grandchildren, Anthony Lolio and Callie Geary; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Raymond Garcia.
Her private Funeral Service was held Friday morning at the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.
