Obituary


John E. Ward, Jr. of Tewksbury passed away peacefully at the Lowell General Hospital, March 26, 2018, following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Ann M. Flynn together sharing 30 years of marriage. Born in Cambridge he was the son of John E. and Marguerite (Downing) Ward Sr.

John was raised and educated in Cambridge and was a graduate of Wentworth College. He honorably served for forty years with the Army National Guard of Massachusetts, attaining the rank of 1st Sergeant and serving as a Medical Corpsman. More recently, John worked as a Security Officer with the Alliance security Company at the JFK Library in Boston for ten years.

John had many interest, but history was one of his favorite pass times. He especially enjoyed military history and medical history as it related to the military. He also enjoyed spending time and participating as a Civil War Reenactor. John also loved traveling and vacationing with family and friends with one of his favorite destinations being the great State of Montana and he also enjoyed a more memorable trip to Ireland with his friends that he served with in the National Guard. John will fondly be remembered for his love of his country and more importantly his devotion and love of his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife Ann, John is survived by his devoted daughters, Lisa Wermecke of Billerica, Michaella Pierce and her husband Daniel of North Reading, and Christine ward of Tewksbury. He was the loving grandfather of John Wermecke, and soon to arrive, Myra Pierce. Brother of Edward Ward of New Jersey and Kay Walsh of Newton. He is also survived by many loving extended family members and dear friends.

A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 374 Main St., WILMINGTON, Tuesday, April 3rd, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with Military Honors and burial at the MA National Cemetery, Bourne with a scheduled service time for 1:30 p.m. for those wishing to attend.
