He was the father of Juvenenalia wife of Duarte Raposo of New Bedford, MA., John husband of Maria (Couto) Tomasia Jr. of New Bedford, MA., Manuela wife of Ilberto Sousa of South Dartmouth, MA., David husband of Cheryl Tomasia of Mattapoisett,Ma., James husband of Maria Gorete Tomasia of Fairhaven MA. He was the brother of the late Joaquim, Jose Ferreira, and Miguel Tomasia, Maria Alzira Melo, and Teresa Pimental. He was the uncle to several nieces and nephews and was the grandfather of 17 and the great-grandfather of 6.
Mr. Tomasia was the son of the late Manuel and Ermelinda (Sousa) Tomasia. He was born in Furnas, St. Michael Azores, Portugal and has lived in this area since 1960. He was a maintenance man at Berkshire Hathaway Mills of New Bedford, MA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 10, 2005 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 5 to 9 P.M., on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at the Perry Funeral Home.
