Sally Jane Hourihan

TEWKSBURY: Sally Jane (Anderson) Hourihan, age 84, a resident of Tewksbury for 63 years, passed away at the Life Care Center of the Merrimack Valley on Monday, March 26, 2018.
She was the beloved wife of John L. Hourihan, with whom she would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on May 28, 2018.
Born in Tawas City, Michigan on June 14, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Russell J. Anderson and the late Marie Irene (Schaaf) Anderson.
Sally was raised in East Tawas, MI, where she attended local schools and graduated from East Tawas High School.
In 1952, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. She was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for her active duty service.
Following her marriage on May 28, 1955, she and her husband moved to Tewksbury, where they raised their five daughters.
Sally was a member and past Chaplain of the Tewksbury American Legion Post # 259, a member and past Sergeant at Arms of the Korean War Veterans Association, and a member of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club and Senior Drop-In-Center.
She enjoyed family gatherings, sewing, baking, cake decorating, and her Thursday night card games at the Tewksbury Elks.
In addition to her husband she is survived by five daughters, Paulette Brennan, and her late husband John, of Beverly, Bonnie Simmons and her husband Mark of Naples, FL, Mary (Hourihan) Donnell, of Wilmington, Fay Hourihan, of Tewksbury, and Sally Gillis and her husband Joseph, of Tewksbury; six grandchildren, Kylie and Lindsey Simmons, Michael and Matthew Donnell, and Hannah and Jared Gillis; brothers-in-law, Walter Sevener of Wilmington, Dar Kauer, of Kinross, MI, and John Gorman, of Tewksbury; her sister-in-law, Bette Mangano and her husband Bob, of Tewksbury. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Sally was the sister of the late Leroy Anderson and his late wife Margaret, the late Eloise Sevener, and the late Betty Kauer, and sister-in-law of the late Margaret Gorman.
Calling hours are Monday, April 2nd, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 3rd, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Tewksbury American Legion Post # 259, 180 Pond St., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
