Obituary


John W. Maier, 79, reached the loving arms of Jesus on March 26, 2018.

He was born, in Anderson IN. He lived in Alexandria, with his Mother, Isabelle V. (Porter) Maier. He graduated from Alexandria High School, Class of 1957.

He served his country in the Indiana Army National Guard for 9.5 years.

In 1963 –he began at Delco Remy—GM, as Journeyman Machine Repair, retiring in 1999, after 36 years of service in plants 11, 16, and 17. In 1974, he married the love of his life, Sheryl (Richardson) Maier. He attended Anderson University graduating with his BS degree in 1992, and earning his MBA degree in 1994 with the University's first MBA class. John attended Park Place Church of God with his wife, serving as an usher in the Pathway’s Sunday School Class and the Community Pantry ministry. He loved to drive. His hobbies included Classic Cars, Street Rods and Ham radio. He made reproduction auto parts for ’36-’40 Buick side mount hardware, which he shipped around the world. He was a member of the Fellowship Masonic Lodge # 681.

John is survived by his loving wife and caregiver of nearly 44 years, Sheryl Maier, a daughter, Sherry Lynn (Darrell) Everett, and a son Stephen (Rose) Maier; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, Aunt Barbara (Ralph) Wilson of Alexandria; Aunt Carolyn Porter-Andrews, New Castle; a half-brother, John D. (Floria) Maier in Katy, TX, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, several nieces, nephews and special friends, Mark (Jean) Dellingner and many friends from Rock Steady Boxing, in Anderson

He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Maier; mother, Isabelle V. Price; son, Scott Christopher Maier and grandson, Travis Wade Maier.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Rozelle – Johnson Funeral Service, 229 S Rangeline Road, Anderson, IN 46012. A Masonic Memorial service by Fellowship Masonic Lodge # 631 at 3 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following with Rev. Micheal Thompson officiating. Burial will take place at Park View Cemetery, Alexandria, IN at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rock Steady Boxing, Community Hospital or The Michael J Fox Foundation, P O Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 in his memory.
