Donald G. “Duck” D‘Abreu, age 69, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Sunday, March 25, 2018.
Born in Boston, MA on November 16, 1948, he was a loving son of the Joseph and Gwendolyn R. (Barnes) D’Abreu.
Don grew up in Mansfield and was a graduate of Mansfield High School. He had been employed for over thirty years as a die maker at the former Bay State Tap & Die Company in Mansfield.
A resident of Mansfield for most of his life, Don had also resided in New Hampshire. He loved music and throughout the years enjoyed collecting and trading records, bobble heads and music paraphernalia.
He was also an avid Red Sox fan and attended many opening day games at Fenway Park. When younger, he played in several softball and hockey leagues.
He is survived by his devoted daughters Stephanie A. Murphy of Norton and Shelly Rivera of Attleboro. He was the dear brother of Raymond L. D’Abreu of Mansfield, Deborah M. Szabo of Mansfield, Joseph R. D’Abreu of Attleboro, Lorraine C. Cunniff of Edgewater, Florida, Lisa J. Silva of Attleboro and Rick D’Abreu of Arkansas. He was the cherished “Grandpa Duck” to his 5 grandchildren, and is also survived by several generations of nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, March 30th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
At the conclusion of visiting hours on Friday evening, a service in celebration of his life will follow at the Norton VFW Post 8049, Summer St. in Norton.
In lieu of flowers, Donald’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Boston Children’s Hospital., 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston, MA 02115.
