John J. Lowney, 85, of New Bedford died March 23, 2018 at Hathaway Manor after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Jacqueline M. (Rogers) Lowney.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Daniel and Emma (Brennan) Lowney, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Lowney was formerly employed as a policer with the New Bedford Police Department and as a truant officer with the New Bedford School Department for many years until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Lowney was a graduate of Holy Family High School where he played basketball and baseball.
He enjoyed the company of his dogs.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis Lowney and his wife Kathleen of Mattapoisett; a daughter, Kellee Lowney of New Bedford; a granddaughter, Megan; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Edward "Tubba" Lowney and Catherine Donohue.
His funeral services will be private.
