Obituary

M. Therese (Desjardins) Hudson, of Salem, passed away peacefully at the NSMC / Salem Hospital on Saturday, March 24, 2018 with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late James H. Hudson, Sr. with whom she had shared 52 years of marriage.
Therese was born and raised in Drummond, New Brunswick Canada, as the 13thchild of the late Paul and Lydia (Pelletier) Desjardins. She moved to Salem in 1945 following the deaths of her parents and worked at the rectories of both St. Joseph and Ste. Anne Parishes. Therese married Jim in 1956 and during the early years of her marriage was dedicated to the raising of their six children. Therese had a generous heart seeking out those in need always putting the needs of others before her own. She was devoted to her family, her parish and to the care of elderly and physically challenged who were confined to nursing homes. Therese was Eucharistic Minister for Ste. Anne’s Church in Salem, shut in’s and for many facilities including AVIV, Grosvenor Park and Devereux House to name a few. She was an avid volunteer for many nonprofits including the Special Olympics, and Shriners Burn Center. In December 2017, Therese was the recipient of the Cheverus Award, an honor bestowed on clergy, religious and laypeople for outstanding humble service who live the motto‘let us love one another’. Therese led a life of deep faith and passion in spreading the word of God. Therese has been a longtime active and beloved member of Ste. Anne Parish, Salem. Her presence, kindness, giving nature and gentle smile will be greatly missed by many.
Therese believed in keeping herself healthy for her family and could be seen on her daily long walks throughout the Salem area. She was very devoted to her family and she especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a talented cook and her big Sunday Dinners, and sweets for ‘the kids’ will not be soon forgotten. Her homemade soup cured many an illness and to her final days brought many smiles. She is survived by five daughters; Denise L. McCoy and husband Patrick of Nashua, NH, Ledia M. Mignault of Salem, Gisele A. Adams of Peabody, Therese M. Jinks and husband Patrick of Salem, Michele O’Neil and husband Michael of Peabody, and Son, James H. Hudson, Jr. of Salem. She also leaves grandchildren; Patrick McCoy Jr, Meagan McCoy, Nicole Mignault and fiancé Michael Kelly, William Mignault Jr, Ashley Adams and Heather Adams, Kathryn Jinks and fiancé Christopher George, Kristin Jinks, Sarah Jinks, Kyle O’Neil, Corey O’Neil, Laura O’Neil and great grandson Lucas McCoy. Therese also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and dear friends across the intercontinental USA and Canada.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 10:00 AM to be followed by her Mass of Christian Burial in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11:00 AM. Visiting hours in the funeral home will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
