Obituary

James J. McCarthy of Jamaica Plain, MA and East Dover, Vermont passed away on March 24, 2018 at home, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved and loving husband of 67 years of Anne M. (Connolly) McCarthy. Born on January 1, 1929, he was the son of the late Louise (Callahan) and Thomas C. McCarthy of West Roxbury, MA. Loving father of Anne Manion and her husband Robert (Bob) of Hingham, Elise Rogers and her husband Wilson (Wil) of Weymouth and Carolyn McCarthy of Westwood. Devoted Grampy of Patrick Manion and his wife Michelle of Reading, Michael Manion and his wife Kellianne of Cohasset, Wilson, James and Annelise Rogers of Weymouth and Carolyn and Joseph Foppiano-McCarthy of Westwood and Great Grampy of Owen and Connor Manion of Reading. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Thomas, Robert and David McCarthy and Marion Phelan, Marjorie Donahue, Doris Waterman and Louise Day.

A graduate of Northeastern University, James was a Registered Pharmacist and former proprietor of College House Pharmacies in Harvard Square, Boston (Mass Ave and Beacon), and on College Hill in Providence, Scituate Harbor Pharmacy, The Bookworm in Boston and Spiritus Fermenti in Providence. Jim served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

Visitation will be held in the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury, on Tuesday, March 27, from 4:00 to 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Chrysostom Church, 4750 Washington St., West Roxbury, on Wednesday, March 28, at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment St. Joseph cemetery.
