Jacqueline E. Opie, 88, of Danvers, MA, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by loved ones. She was the wife of the late David W. Opie, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage before his passing On June 7, 2017. Born in Lynn, MA on May 6, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Rene’ and Eva Gingras.
Jacquie was a graduate of Lynn English High School and Emmanuel College. She was a dedicated and well-loved teacher of foreign languages at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, St. Mary’s of the Annunciation School and Danvers High School for many years. She was a long standing parishioner of St. Mary’s of the Annunciation of Danvers.
Jacquie joined the Paul Madore Chorale in the early 1970’s. She was a valued member of the soprano section and served as chorale President for five consecutive terms. She was always eager to help with the logistics of staging the chorale’s larger productions and was a faithful member of the small group known as the Paul Madore Chamber Singers.
In addition to her late husband, Jacquie was predeceased by her son, Stephen R. Opie. She leaves behind her much adored sister, Pauline Maher of Lynn and her sons Thomas D. and (Debbie) Opie of Galena, OH and son John M. Opie. Also, her niece, Michelle Maher, three grandchildren, including Lauren E. (James) Harmon of Lakeville, MN, Kevin T. Opie of Savage, MN and John D. Opie of Danvers and two great grandchildren, Sadie and Elle Harmon. This is in addition to her many loyal friends. She will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM to be followed by her funeral service in the funeral home at 11:00 AM.
