Irene (Sladewski) Sherman, 91, of Westport, died peacefully Thursday morning, March 8, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Irene was born on September 28, 1926, in New Bedford, one of six children of the late Stanley and Karolina (Szostak) Sladewski. She was married to the late Donald "Bob" Sherman for 46 years.
Irene was a wonderful loving mother to her six surviving children: Carole Craveiro of Westport; Trudy and her husband Scott Costa of Dartmouth; Donna Gonsalves of Dartmouth; Christopher Sherman of Fairhaven; Peter Sherman of Dartmouth; and Julie Sherman of Westport. Her eleven grandchildren are: Lisa Maucione, Eric Maucione, Justin Maucione, Samantha Costa, Jennifer DeMailly, Jill Gonsalves, Jesse Gonsalves, Zac Sherman, Ethan Sherman, Chelsea Sherman, and Quincy Simas. She enjoyed the library, reading, watching movies with her cat Clementine, and visiting with her eight great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank all of those from Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association who cared for her.
At her request, graveside services to celebrate Irene's life are private.
