O’Connell, Daniel Francis 81, of Hingham, MA, formerly of Andover and Scituate, died peacefully on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17, 2018) at Boston Medical Center in hospice care by Seasons Hospice. Dan was a double Eagle, graduating from BC High (1955) and BC (1959). After graduation he had a successful career in corporate accounting; culminating in his position of CFO of Brigham’s Inc. He was an avid golfer, having started when he caddied on the Cape for, amongst others, the Kennedy family, at Hyannis Port. He also loved crosswords, steak, and ice cream. Dan always dreamed of running a restaurant; he fulfilled this dream opening Baldwin’s Restaurant in Woburn, MA, with his wife Nancy. Over 10 years, they hosted many regulars, weddings, christenings, and bereavements. He also helped many of his employees become citizens. Dan, with his passion, determination, and amazing bartending skills, turned Baldwin’s into a real-life Cheers! He always thought of his staff and regulars as an extension of his family. He retired to Scituate, MA fulfilling a lifelong dream of living by the sea. He enjoyed walks along the harbor, feeding the seagulls and his “million dollar view” at high tide.
He is survived by his wife: Nancy O’Connell, his children: Diane O’Connell, Karen O’Connell, Pamela Fuller and Danielle Driscoll and his grandchildren: Matthew, Alicia, John and Conor, and his sister: Maureen, all of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded by his brother Brian. He gave us many gifts for which we are grateful, among them are a strong work ethic, devotion to family, and a love for the ocean.
