Mary Anne Harrison, artist and local resident passed away on February 27th at Seashore Point Wellness Center in Provincetown.
Although she denied and defied compartmentalization, her artistic work reminded observers of a kinder, gentler, Georgia O’Keefe. Her luminous pastel landscapes of the earth, the body and mind evoke remembrances of the past and help for the future. Born in Texas, she lived most of her life in Long Island. She was a dedicated, full time resident of Provincetown in her retirement. After working for years in hand-crafted textiles and operating a successful art gallery in Sag Harbor, NY, Mary Anne moved to Provincetown and lived at Maushope Senior housing.
She was well loved by friends and caregivers alike. Towards the end of her long life, after most of her family had passed away; it was this “village” that took care of her. She was well cared for by her friends Cindi Gast and Patrick Manning. The nursing staff at Seashore Point became her caring family. Mary Ann was predeceased by her lifelong love Virginia Tarleton.
A memorial event will be planned for this summer.
