Pierre Paul “Peter” Richard died March 5, 2018 at RI Hospital surrounded by his family and friend. He was born in Berthierville, Quebec, Canada and lived most of his life in Central Falls, RI. He was baptized and raised in the Roman Catholic faith, and was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Parish of Central Falls where he also attended Notre Dame School and Sacred Heart Academy.
“Peter” was predeceased by his parents Lionel and Jeanette Richard, brother Claude, sisters Germaine Berard, Theresa Morin, Jeannine Voyer, and his late wife wife Mary (Cordeiro) Richard.
He is survived by daughters Lisa Richard and her partner John, Linda Richard, and Lynn Richard and her partner Tom all of Maine, and Claudine Joao of Connecticut; grandchildren Shayne Oliver, and wife Chelsey and their children Brayden and Greyson; Deserey Oliver and Jimmy Desmond and their daughter Harley; Cheyanne Navarro and her fiancee Bryan Fanjoy and their son Remmy; and Andrew Cordes all of Maine as well as Scott, Robert, and Patrick Joao of Connecticut. He is also survived by his sisters Gisele Vigeant and Doris Kermen of Pawtucket, RI, Pierrette Robert and her husband Paul of Berkley, MA, and Madeleine Kiras of Central Falls, RI; brothers Real of The Villages, FL, Norman and his partner Joan of Central Falls, RI , and John and his wife Joan of Warwick, RI. and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his significant other, Ann Doran.
Peter served proudly and honorably in the United States Navy (1960-64). He was stationed aboard the USS Nitro(AE-23) when it was ordered to Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962.
He enjoyed reading about naval and maritime subjects, and had a special interest in whales. He also was an avid card player and enjoyed watching the NE Patriots on TV with his brothers. Peter’s greatest pleasure was derived from spending time with his family and friends around the various holidays, family gatherings, and birthday parties. He was particularly loving of and devoted to his daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Peter also had many friends especially those at the Garfield Social Club of Central Falls of which he was a charter member and held various offices. Peter will be dearly missed by all who loved him and knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Church, 1030 Dexter Street Central Falls on Saturday, March 24 at 8:00am followed by burial with military honors at 10:00am at the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.
