John F. Hayes, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 66 years of age.
John was born in Boston on May 4, 1951, a son of the late Joseph J. Hayes and Mary L. (Russell) Hayes. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1969. John worked for over 35 years as an Anesthesia Technician at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton. John was involved in Charlestown Youth Hockey as a coach for several years and also enjoyed a 25 year career as a hockey official for USA Hockey. He officiated for several years at high school lacrosse leagues and in his spare time enjoyed watching the Boston Bruins. John's passion in his life was his family and cherished the special moments he was able to spend with his grandson Connor.
John is the beloved husband of 37 years to Diane (Heatley) Hayes. He is the devoted father of Christopher Hayes and Joal Hayes and his wife Jennifer. He is the loving Grandpa to Connor Hayes. He is the beloved brother of Daniel Hayes, Edith "DeeDee" Hayes, JeanMarie Hayes and the late Joseph Hayes and Mary Harris. He is the brother-in-law of Alice Lynch. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. His visiting hours will be on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
