TILTON-----Pauline McLam Rouhan, 99, of River Road died February 25, 2018 in Tilton, NH, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Pauline was born January 3, 1919 in Groton, VT, the youngest of seven children born to George and Ida (Morrison) McLam. Pauline graduated from Groton High School in 1936, and received her teaching certificate from Lyndon Normal School in 1938. She enjoyed teaching for several years in the one-room schoolhouses of Newbury and Ryegate, VT.
Pauline married her high school sweetheart, James D. Rouhan, in 1939 and was a devoted and loving wife for 68 years. She played a crucial role supporting the family dairy farm and cattle business. Pauline had one son, James D. Rouhan, Jr., with whom she remained very close all her life. Family was of utmost importance to Pauline, and she greatly enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her extended family and friends. In particular, she was an important figure in the raising of her six grandchildren; she taught them to read, cook, play cards, and to be a good example.
An extraordinary cook and an avid card player, Pauline’s love of laughter and simple pleasures inspired many, and she will be immeasurably missed.
Pauline is survived by her son, Jim and his wife, Polly; grandchildren Terri and Craig Forcier, Jim and Rocio Rouhan, Bonnie and Dean Lavoie, Colleen Rouhan, Bridget and Phil Wess, Sarah and Gordon Scott; as well as eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, and six siblings.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, May 5, at 11:00 am, at Groton Village Cemetery, Groton, VT.
