Althea A. Sankey, 88

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Althea A. (Troesch) Sankey, age 88, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph M. Sankey, to whom she was wed for sixty-two years at the time of his death on August 4, 2011.

Born in Attleboro, MA on May 7, 1929, she was a loving daughter of the late Lewis and Alice (Avery) Troesch.

Althea grew up in Mansfield and was a 1946 graduate of Mansfield High School. Prior to retiring, she served as the Volunteer Coordinator for the Mansfield Council on Aging. Mrs. Sankey had previously been employed at the former Mansfield Garage and in the Mansfield Town Clerks Office.

Althea was a member of the Congregational Church of Mansfield and actively involved with the Mansfield Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a former member Operation Friendship in Mansfield and was the recipient of the Mansfield Citizen of the year award in recognition of her many years of service at the Mansfield Council on Aging.

Althea loved spending time in the presence of her adoring family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and making and displaying crafts for annual Mansfield Christmas Fairs.

She is survived by her devoted children Jeffrey M. Sankey and his wife Tricia White of North Easton, Susan L. Bailey and her husband Dan of Palmer, and Todd A. Sankey and his wife Laura of Foxboro. She was the dear sister of Carol Tessier of South Yarmouth and the late Arlene Fulp, who is survived by her husband Billy Fulp of South Yarmouth. She is also survived by her cherished 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, March 15th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 14th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
