Obituary

Charles P. Marinelli, 89, passed away on March 6, 2018 at home surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Anna (Moretti) Marinelli.

Charles was born in New Bedford on June 30, 1928 to the late Carmine Marinelli and Grace (Donato) Marinelli. He lived in New Bedford all of his life and was a retiree of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of both the Korean War and World War II.

He loved his family, his garden, woodworking and enjoyed sitting in his back yard watching his tomatoes grow.

Charles was a long-standing member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, USS Tripoli Association and the Washington Club.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his daughter, Joanne Marinelli Mackay and her husband Stephen; his grandchildren, Sean Mackay and Nicole Mackay; his great-grandchildren, Anna Marinelli, Chucky Marinellli, and Carter Mackay; his sisters, Loretta Bourque, Grace Bourgault and her husband Paul; his brother, John Marinelli; his daughter-in-law, Karen Marinelli and granddaughter-in-law, Gabby DeSousa; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his son, Michael Charles Marinelli; his grandson, Charles Michael Marinelli; and his sisters, Mary Thomas and Rose Houbre.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Care-Resources, the Dialysis Unit at Hawthorne Medical Center, STAT Ambulance Service and very special caretaker Jen Fagundes, all of who took such loving care of him during his illness.

His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 9 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5-7 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
