Jaime A. Melo, age 83, of Taunton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the embracing love of his family on Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Life Care Center in Raynham. He was the beloved husband of Maria T. (Lima) Melo, to whom he was wed for nearly twenty years.
Born in Ribeira Grande, St Michaels, Portugal on April 5, 1934, he was a loving son of the late Jacinto and Maria (Amaral) Melo.
In the 1960’s, he came to the United States, first settling in East Providence, Rhode Island. He later moved to Taunton, where he has made his home for the past twenty-five years and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Taunton.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Melo had been employed for over ten years as a truck driver for Cumberland Farms. He loved spending time amongst family and at the time of his death, was anticipating the birth of his third great grandchild. Jaime was a simple man who enjoyed gardening, tending to his grapevines and making refreshing homemade wine.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children Susana Pereira and her husband Manuel of Taunton, Sonia Feliciano and her husband Paulo of Taunton, Nuno Machado and his wife Melissa of Taunton, Venilde Pacheco and her husband Jose of East Providence, Rhode Island, and Sandra Amorim and her husband Mark of Jaffrey, New Hampshire. He is also survived by many dear brothers and sisters, his loving 16 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will begin on Saturday, March 10th at 9:00 A.M. from the Taunton Funeral Home, 8 Crapo St. (Off Route 140, Tremont St.) Taunton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Anthony’s Church, 126 School St., Taunton. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 9th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Taunton Funeral Home.
