Thomas F. Saunders
TEWKSBURY: Thomas F. Saunders, age 82, of Tewksbury, formerly of Andover and Swampscott, passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Sunday, March 4, 2018.
He was the beloved husband of Linda M. (Lermond) Saunders, with whom he celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary on (May 15th, 2017).
Born in Lowell on January 9, 1936, he was the son of the late Eugene F. and Kathleen R. (Scullion) Saunders.
Tom was raised in Lowell and Tewksbury. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Keith Academy in (1954).
Following high school, he attended the Wentworth Institute of Technology and the Boston Architectural College.,
Tom was employed as a registered architect for over 40 years. He worked for award winning architectural firms with expertise in healthcare, research, educational, and residential building types. Tom’s professional affiliations included the American Institute of Architects and the Boston Society of Architects.
Tom enjoyed many activities, including attending his grandchildren’s sports, dance and music events, playing guitar, art, and photography. Tom always had his camera with him at family events, and created an extensive archive of photographs and slides that he was always happy to share with family and friends.
In addition to his wife Linda, family members include his children, the late Thomas F. Saunders, Jr., and his wife Patricia M. (Vieweg), of Methuen (grandchildren Jon, Frank, Rachel, Taylor, Alexis), Maura McGovern and her husband AJ of Medford (grandchildren Siobhan, Conor), Bill Saunders and his wife Eileen(Burke)of Marlborough (grandchildren Alyssa, Kate), ; step-daughters, Donna Cunha and her spouse Tammy Skelly of Sandown, NH (grandchildren Hannah, Sam), and Kristin Shattuck of Peabody (grandchildren Matthew, Emilee); siblings, the late Eugene L. Saunders, and his wife Joan (Ryan)(Chappell) of Tewksbury, John E. Saunders and his wife Maryann (Bettencourt) of Salem, NH, Paul J. Saunders of Tewksbury, Mary Jo O’Brien and her husband Thomas of Tewksbury, Jane E. dos Santos and her late husband Dr. Fernando dos Santos of Salem, NH, and Ann F. Welch and her husband Bryan of Salem , NH. Former husband of the late Joan (Durkin) Saunders of Tewksbury. Brother-in-law of the late M. June (McCarthy) Saunders of Tewksbury. He leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Calling hours are Thursday, March 8, from 4-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin on Friday, March 9th, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggetts Pond Rd., Andover.
