Theresa Constance Courcy passed away March 4th 2018 at the age of 93 following a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Louis P. and Yvonne (Cyr) Courcy. She was lifelong resident of Taunton, a graduate St. Jacques grammar School and a 1942 graduate of St. Mary’s High School.
In 1942 she began her career as a switch board operator for the New England Telephone company. In 1965 she was appointed chief operator and became responsible for a staff of 100 operators who handled calls from customers from Taunton and surrounding areas, a position she held for 13 years. Her last assignment was “manager in charge of training” for the southeast division, with headquarters in Boston. Theresa retired in 1981 with 39 years of service. In her youth she belonged to “La Societe Des Enfants De Marie”. She was a life member of the Mayflower telephone pioneers of America and a past member of the quota club of Taunton.
She is survived by her 2 loving nieces; Anne M. Souza and her husband Robert of Taunton, with whom she lived with for the last surviving years of her life and her niece Jeanne Fahy and her husband Michael of Attleboro. She Also leaves behind a nephew; Donald P. Beauvais and his wife Lisa of Bridgewater, 3 grand Nephews; Robert Souza and his wife Ashley of Walpole, Michael Souza of Plymouth, and Shawn Fahy of Attleboro, 3 grand nieces; Sara and Marisa Beauvais of Bridgewater and Shannon Fahy of Attleboro, A great great niece; Brielle Souza of Walpole and her cousin Theresa V. Courcy of Taunton to whom was her best friend.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Riendeau-Mulvey funeral home 467 Bay St. Taunton on Friday March 16th from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend will be celebrated in St. Jude the Apostle Church 249 Whittenton St. on Saturday March 17th at 9:30AM.
