Gary William Hankins, 73, of Oxnard, California passed away on March 1, 2018 in Oxnard, CA.
Gary was born on January 6th, 1945 in Bridgeport, Nebraska to Lieutenant Colonel William and Elizabeth Hankins. He went to Fayetteville High School in North Carolina and became an Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America. Gary went on to earn a Bachelors of Arts from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.
While serving his country during the Vietnam War, Gary received the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. In 2009, he was inducted into the US Army OCS (Office Candidate School) Hall of Fame.
Gary was an active 40-year member of the Jonathan Club of Los Angeles, holding multiple leadership positions including President, Board Member and founder of the Ronald Reagan Distinguished American Award. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, Los Angeles.
Gary was a 25-year owner of Pygmalion, Inc., a communications skills training company. In his later years, he served as a Board Member for the Boy Scouts of America, Los Angeles, a Professor at the University of Southern California and a successful Author writing the “Power of the Pitch”.
Gary enjoyed the beach, fine wine, and making pizza with the family.
Gary is survived by his wife, Betsy Green of Oxnard, his daughter, Gabriela (Gabi) Hankins of Los Angeles and brother, Rich Hankins of Charlottesville, VA. (Chris) Jeanette, Kristyn and Will.
The funeral services will be held at Community Presbyterian Church 1555 Poli Street Ventura, CA 93001 on Saturday, March 10th at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. Mark Patterson officiating.
