Robert K. Soares, 75, of New Bedford died February 28, 2018 unexpectedly at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Mary Ellen "Mollie" (Pennington) Soares and the late Brenda (Pridemore) Soares.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Manuel Soares and Margaret (Medeiros) Medeiros, he was raised in Swansea and lived in New Bedford most of his life.
He was the proprietor of R.K. Soares Construction and later worked for Local #57 Operating Engineers Union in Providence for several years until his retirement.
Mr. Soares served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War.
He enjoyed woodworking, especially making furniture.
Survivors include his wife; his 3 children, Vickie DeSouza and her partner Rachelle Deneault of New Bedford, John Soares and his wife Lori of South Dartmouth and Kimberly O'Malley and her husband Patrick of Seekonk; a sister, Sandra Medeiros of Jefferson, NH; and 3 grandchildren, Robert Sean O'Malley, Michael Joseph DeSouza and Amber DeSouza Sumner.
His funeral arrangements will be private.
