Obituary

Abington – Stanley H. Shura 79, died Wednesday February 28 in the South Shore Hospital after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Carol A. (McIver) Shura.

Born in Central Falls, RI and raised in Quincy, he was the son of the late Stanley W. and Jennie Shura and a graduate of Quincy High School.

Stanley was a proud veteran of the US Navy having served from 1956-1978.

After his military service Stanley attended Quincy College, attaining his Associate Degree in Accounting. He had worked for the Apparel Buying Co, and JL Hammett Co. prior to joining the US Postal Service in 1986 and retiring in 1999.

He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and Baptist Bowling League. He volunteered for many years at the Abington Senior Center, was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. He was an ardent fan of the Patriots.

He is survived by his sons Stanley W. Shura of Abington, Mark J. Shura and his husband Daniel Harvey of Medway, and Brian P. Shura and his wife Kimberly (Hewitt) Shura of Norfolk. He is also survived by three grandchildren; Kaiden, Addison, and Mackenzie Shura, all of Norfolk his loving companion of many years, Karen Butler, also of Abington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and long-time friend of the family, Marc Panasuk of Marshfield.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday March 6 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in the Plymouth County Cemetery, Plymouth. Visiting hours will be held Monday March 5 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
