Marion H. (Simko) Mazzeo, of Medford, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 27thafter a long battle with COPD. She was 78.
Marion was born on January 20, 1940 in Somerville. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Dorothy (Turner) Simko. As a daughter of a military family, she traveled to various states and finally settled down in Massachusetts. Marion graduated from Somerville High School with the Class of 1958. She thoroughly enjoyed dancing and reading many different types of novels.
In 1962, Marion married the love of her life, Francis Mazzeo. After his honorable discharge from the military, they moved to Medford to start a family. Not only was she a homemaker who raised three daughters and cared for their cherished pets, she joined in the ownership of their family business.
Marion was the beloved wife of Francis “Frank” Mazzeo. The two married on January 14, 1962 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Medford. Together they shared 56 loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Doreen Dimino and her husband Angelo of Revere, Linda Buoncuore and her husband Robert of Medford, Karen Stevens and her husband Jeffrey of Revere. Marion was the loving grandmother of Robert Buoncuore, Angelo Dimino, Joseph Dimino, Samantha Stevens, and Michael Stevens. She was the dear sister of Michael Simko and his wife Ann Marie of Maryland, Suzanne Paterna and her husband Salvatore of Florida, Janice Wilkinson and her husband Randy of Maryland. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Monday, March 5th at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 AM . Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
