Shirley M. Maciolek, age 83, passed away on Feb. 25, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at Chicopee Gardens. She was born on Nov. 25, 1934 in Chicopee to the late Albine and Mary (Cavellei) Vielleux. She was a 1952 graduate of Chicopee High School, where in 1949, she met the love of her life, George Maciolek. From their first glance in the school cafeteria, she told her friends that she was going to marry “that guy”. They married at St Stanislaus Church on June 6, 1953 and were blessed with 64 happy years together. Shirley leaves behind her son, Richard Maciolek and his wife Holly of Chicopee; her daughter, Dawn Fernandes and her husband Bill of Agawam; 2 brothers, Robert Vielleux and his wife Eleanor of Chicopee and Walter Valego and his wife Chickie of Agawam; 2 sisters, Marion Plasse of Chicopee and Josephine DeJordy and her husband Henry of Chicopee. She leaves 3 grandchildren who she loved and adored, Michael Maciolek of Chicopee, Mark Maciolek and his wife Amanda of Ludlow and Brittany Charron and her husband Derek of Ludlow. She will be sadly missed by her great grandchildren, Zach Nichols, Charlotte and Adelynn Maciolek, Jillian and Emma Charron. After Shirley retired from retail where she was employed for many years, she was a volunteer in the Chicopee School system, serving multiple capacities, while keeping an eye on her grand babies as they grew! She will be remembered for all the many beautifully crafted cakes that she created for family and friends. Many babies in the area were cuddled in quilts and blankets that she lovingly crocheted and knitted. An avid Yankee fan, Shirley loved cheering on her team and attended games at Yankee Stadium with her family. She will now be managing her beloved “Pinstripes” from her box seat in heaven! Calling hours will be held on Friday, Mar. 2, 2018 from 4:00- 8:00 p.m., at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Mar. 3, 2018 at 9:00 a.m., at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Stanislaus Basilica at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St Stanislaus Cemetery.
