Obituary

John Patrick Bohling, age 55, passed away at his home in Boston surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 26, 2018 after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born on August 30, 1962 in Woburn, Massachusetts to George and Marie (Callaghan) Bohling and grew up in Stoneham, Massachusetts along with his 8 brothers and sisters. He graduated Stoneham High School in 1981, and after working and attending college part time, he began his long career at Showa Boston Institute in 1988 where he quickly rose to the position of Director of Facilities. It was there that he met his wife Patricia Tinney of Miller Place, NY and they married on July 6, 1991. Together they raised 3 wonderful children of whom John was immensely proud. He loved nothing more than to spend time in the company of his family and friends either enjoying the outdoors, attending sporting events, camping, skiing or traveling to warmer climates. John was an avid reader and had a prolific knowledge of history. He was best known, however, for his unfailing good humor and quick wit.

A kind, unassuming man, John was the epitome of quiet strength. A supportive husband, involved loving father and loyal friend, John asked for little, but gave much. Fully aware of the blessings in his life, John was quick to lend a helping hand whenever he could. He took great pride in his work at Showa throughout the 30 years of being there, always leading by example and supporting those with whom he worked. When not at work, John loved escaping to a golf course, beach or lake; pretty much any place he was not responsible for clearing snow. His happy place was his small home in Gilford, NH near Lake Winnepesaukee where he and his family enjoyed simply being together and escaping the demands of daily life for awhile. Some of John's fondest childhood memories were of vacationing with his family at Gunstock in the summers and it gave him great joy to share the same with his own children. John was a man who knew what counted most and was enormously admired by all who were fortunate to know him, especially his wife, son and daughters. He will be forever missed.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Patti; son, Daniel; daughters Catherine and Isabel; his cherished mother Marie A. Bohling of Stoneham; his loving siblings and their spouses Katherine Coughlin of North Reading, Jeanne and Joseph LoVetere of North Reading, Stephen and Sandra Bohling of Hollis, NH, Robert Bohling of Pepperell, Denise Kaminskas of Southbury, CT, Janice and David Creesy of Merrimac, Paul Bohling of Stoneham, and Anne Marie and Scott DeSantis of Palmer. He will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and wonderful friends, all of whom he loved dearly.

A wake will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the Robert J. Lawler and Crosby Funeral Home at 1803 Centre St., West Roxbury, MA 02132. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:30 am at The Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola at 28 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467.
