Obituary

William J. Kelly, of Center Drive, Stonington, passed Thursday at Mystic Manor. Bill was born on March 27, 1921 to Michael V. and Charlotte Kelly. Raised in the New Britain, he attended local schools and later served in the Army Corps. of Engineers during World War II.

He enjoyed a long distinguished career as an Officer of the New Britain Police Department prior to his retirement in 1975. A longtime resident of New Britain, he served as the District Committee Person for the Boy Scouts and founded the Police Explorer Post #25 unit in New Britain. In his retirement, he enjoyed the ocean, fishing, and clamming. He was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Bill was married to Geraldine (Tinker) Kelly in New Britain on January 25, 1944. Mrs. Kelly passed on September 16, 2003.

He is survived by his brother, Francis “Frank” Kelly of Manchester, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Neidman, Joseph Kelly, John Kelly, and Vincent Kelly.

Bill’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Monday from 6-8pm. A Service will be held on Tuesday at 11am at Union Baptist Church, Mystic with the Rev. Dr. G. Kenneth Carpenter, Pastor, officitating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
