CHICOPEE – Brian B. Freeman, 64, of Chicopee, was Called Home on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on April 9, 1953, a beloved son of the late Stanley B. and Lillian R. (Gamelin) Freeman. He was raised in Granby, graduated from Granby High School and moved to Chicopee in 1977. In his youth, he was active in scouting and was very proud to achieve Eagle Scout status by the age of 15. He furthered his education and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from American International College in Springfield. He was employed for 22 years as a Special Education Teacher at Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School in Palmer and retired in 1998. Following his retirement, he worked as a Substitute Teacher for the Chicopee School Department. He was a longtime communicant of Saint Patrick Church in Chicopee Falls and later a communicant of Saint Anne Church in the Fairview section of Chicopee. He was also a former member of the Chicopee Lodge of Elks No. 1849. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Mary Anne (Johnson) Freeman. They were married on August 20, 1977 at Saint Anne Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 40 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Brian B. Freeman, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Springfield, Gregory E. Freeman and his wife, Kelly, of Westfield and Katherine M. “Katie” Cooper and her husband, Daniel, of Chicopee; his three cherished grandchildren, Temperance, Delilah, and Beckett Freeman; his dear brother, S. Edward Freeman and his wife, Eleanor, of Lady Lake, FL; his two dear brothers-in-law, Paul E. Johnson and his wife, Ann, of Chicopee and Douglas C. Johnson and his wife, April, of Ludlow; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Freeman and Johnson families. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear father-in-law, Eskil E. Johnson who was Called Home on July 15, 2013; and his dear wives, Clementina S. (Fontinha) Johnson who was Called Home on September 22, 1996 and Doris M. (Godin) Consedine Johnson who was Called Home on March 27, 2015. His Funeral will be held on Thursday morning, March 1, 2018 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 168 Fuller Road, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
