Obituary

Jerome L. “Chief” Griffin, 97, of Byfield, formerly of Malden, passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2018.

Jerome, born in Lowell, Massachusetts was a long-time resident of Malden where he and his beloved late wife Dorothea V. (DiPietro) Griffin raised a family of five children. He worked for the United States Postal Service in Boston for 42 years.

Jerome was part of the Greatest Generation serving as a member of the 39th General Hospital Unit in New Zealand during World War II.

He is survived by his five children: Deborah V. Iacono and her husband Frank, J. Lawrence Griffin Jr. and his wife Pam, Nancy A. Griffin and her husband James Hilly, Mary E. Perna and her husband Christopher, and Barbara Duserick and her husband William. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerome was survived by one beloved sister-in-law, Helen J. Tourel of Malden and predeceased by his three brothers James Griffin, John Griffin, and Gerald Griffin.

Visiting hours will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home 865 Main Street, Malden on Friday March 2nd from 7-9 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Private burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
