Charles was a vibrant man who always said his favorite loves were his grandchildren, writing, traveling and golf. He was a man who experienced the full spectrum of 20th century American history. He was most happy while swimming in the Aegean, being surrounded by his family, teaching literature to students of all ages, and voicing opinions about world issues. A perfect day would involve dark chocolate, red wine, Benny Goodman and a good poem by Robert Frost. He was adored by so many whose lives he had touched.
