Carlos N. DeFreitas, 77, of Westport, unexpectedly passed away at home on Monday, February 19, 2018. He was the husband of Maria M. (Oliveira) DeFreitas.
Mr. DeFreitas was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal, son of the late Jose and Olinda (Nunes) DeFreitas and had been a longtime resident of Westport. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport. Mr. DeFreitas enjoyed soccer, fishing and playing Christmas carols on his harmonica. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors along with his wife include his son: Carlos DeFreitas and his wife Gail of E. Taunton; his daughter: Diane M. Czapiga and her husband Michael of Assonet; 2 brothers: Manuel DeFreitas and Alberto DeFreitas, both of Faial; a sister: Amelia DeFreitas of Faial; 3 grandchildren: Brandyn, Ashlyn and Allyson; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Jose DeFreitas.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6-8 P.M at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment will be private.
