Obituary

James Alton Carter, 87, of Willacoochee passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Willacoochee with the Rev. Billy Huffstuttler officiating. Mr. Carter will be laid to rest at Willacoochee Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 24, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at the First Baptist Church of Willacoochee.

Terry Davis, Pat Barlow, Michael White, Steve O’Neal, Tim Carter and Timothy Morris will serve as pallbearers.

Born January 21, 1931 in Tift County, Mr. Carter was the son of the late James Carl Carter and Cassie Maddox Carter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances O’Neal Carter. He graduated from Mercer University School of Pharmacy in 1958 as a registered pharmacist and worked as a pharmacist in Albany until 1963. From 1963-2005, he was owner and operator of Carter Pharmacy in Willacoochee. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Okinawa.

Mr. Carter is survived by his two daughters, Rhonda and her son, Cason Carter Barlow of Brunswick and Kim and her daughter, Maggie Grace Davis of Canton; one brother, Wayne Wood of Lenox; and a special friend, Phoebe Brown of Willacoochee.
