Obituary

William H. Brown III "Buster" of Croton on Hudson, formerly of Ossining, NY died suddenly on February 16, 2018. He was 70. Mr. Brown worked as an area manager for AT & T Service Inc. He had an extensive career in the telephone and computer network industry. Buster was born March 27, 1947 in Ossining to William H. Brown Jr and Erma Wilkins Davis. He graduated from Ossining High School in 1965 and attended Dominican College and Westchester Community College. Bill served in the Army from 1966 to 1968. He was a member of the VFW in Yorktown. On June 21, 1969 he married Cynthia DeRocco in Ossining.Mr. Brown lived in Croton on Hudson for the past 43 years coming from Ossining. Bill was a 50+ year active member of the Ossining Fire Department, Steamer Co. #1. He served as Captain, President, Commissioner as well as many other leadership roles. William was a recipient of the New York State fire fighter of the year award in 2001. Buster also volunteered with the Croton Fire Department. He was also a member of the Road Knights, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), and the Mahopac Golf Club.Bill will be remembered for his love and devotion for his family and time spent with his grandchildren. He will also be remembered for his witty sense of humor, strong friendships, love of classic cars and motorcycles and his days spent on the golf course. He will be remembered by many for his leadership and devotion to the Ossining Steamer Company #1 of the Ossining Fire Department. He is survived by his wife Cynthia, daughters Jennifer Laemmel (Bruce), Susan O’Connell (James), grandchildren Cooper, Bryce, Avery, Sophie and Gavin, sister Patti Anfiteatro (Peter) and brother Michael Brown (Kelly). Family members who died earlier include his mother and father. Calling hours will be held at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532 on Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9pm. The funeral is Thursday 10:30am at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 1 Old Post Road South, Croton on Hudson. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery. Memorial contribution can be sent to the Ossining Steamer Co.#1 or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements entrusted to John G. Crawford Funeral Director
