Patricia Sater Lord, born January 21, 1923 in South Orange, NJ, died at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London on Tuesday after a brief illness.
Mrs. Lord grew up in Summit, NJ where she attended local public schools, and graduated from Smith College in 1944, with a major in American Studies. Immediately after graduation, she worked as a buyer for R.H. Macy and Bamberger’s Department Stores. In June, 1946 she married Bennett Lord. Together, they raised four children in the New Britain area, Edward Bennett Lord, Margaret Sater Lord, Elizabeth “Betsie” Lord Danforth, and Amy Lord Wilkinson.
An active participant in her community, Mrs. Lord was a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, New Britain, the Junior League of Hartford and New Britain, and several school parent-teacher organizations. Her volunteer work included tutoring children with special needs in New Britain and Berlin, CT.
After living for four years in England, she and her husband retired to Mason’s Island in Mystic where they had enjoyed summers since 1950. She enjoyed membership in Mystic Congregational Church and Mason’s Island Yacht Club. She had a great passion for, and knowledge of, gardening, antiques, and the decorative and fine arts. Recently, Mr. and Mrs. Lord relocated to Stone Ridge in Mystic.
Mrs. Lord is survived by her husband, four children, their spouses, Mary Patricia Lord, Arthur J. Kover, Curt Danforth, and Bruce E. Wilkinson, along with three grandchildren, David Bennett Wilkininson, Ariana Louise Wilkinson, and Christopher Hayden Danforth.
A celebration of her life will be held at Mystic Congregational Church on Saturday, November 19th at 1pm. Private burial will precede at Elm Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Clarke School for the Deaf, Round Hill Rd., Northampton, MA 01060 or the Mystic Congregational Church, East Main St, Mystic 06355.
