Brockton - Kenneth M. Ruf, Jr. 58, beloved husband, son, brother, father and friend, died peacefully on Saturday February 17 at Massachusetts General Hospital. He fought long and hard against, both leukemia and liver disease; however in the end he lost the battle and went home to be with the Lord.
He lived in Brockton with his loving wife Cheryl A. (Foster) Ruf, they were married 23 years.
Born in Boston in 1959, he was the son of Barbara (Flaherty) (Ruf) Gove and the late Kenneth M. Ruf, Sr.
He had worked as a Union Laborer for the Local 133, out of Quincy and later in his life went on to earn a certificate of completion for substance abuse counseling from Curry College.
Until his illness, he was an active member of his church, the “Church of Abundant Life” in Braintree.
He was also a member of Martial Arts AKKO of Rockland. He liked to lift weights; bicycle and roller blade and he loved his MANY birds.
He enjoyed going on vacation with his wife Cheryl to Florida and other tropical destinations. He truly cherished his family and many friends.
He served the Lord on the mission field and touched so many lives through Christ; he truly had a heart for helping those in need. He had a strong faith in Christ and loved the Lord with all his heart.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife Cheryl of Weymouth, his mother Barbara Gove and her husband William, his sister Patricia Walsh and her husband Mark of Whitman and nieces Katrina, Samantha and Amanda, his sister Collette Feliciano and her husband Patrick of Pell City, Alabama and their children Keton and Ciara. He is also survived by his daughter Kendra Skemp of Colorado and his two step-children Fred and Sheila Henson as well as two grandchildren and two great nieces.
He will be missed.
His funeral service will be held Monday February 26 at 11:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Sunday February 25 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
