LIMERICK- Herbert L. Ashby, age 66, passed away on Feb. 14, 2018 at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Portland on May 6, 1951, a son of Herbert T. and Irene I. (Dudley) Ashby. After graduating from Portland High School, he enlisted into the US Army, and served from 1970 – 1976.
He went on to work in South Portland at G.E. as a welder, while returning to USM and later graduating with a business degree. For 23 years, he was employed at S.D. Warren. He worked in the print shop and in several different positions directly connected to paper production. When the mill downsized, he went back to USM to get his journeyman license as a fuel and oil tech, and worked for Vallier Oil. He then got his Class One drivers license and drove truck for F.R. Carroll in the summers. He would later work for Dodge Oil in Gorham until his retirement.
Herb enjoyed skydiving, owning his own plane, his boat, motorcycle and most of all – his John Deere tractor that he used while gardening with Kathy.
He is predeceased by his father; his brother- Bernard Dudley; and a sister- Patricia Dern.
Herb is survived by his beloved Kathy; Kathy's two sons- Raymond and David Sanborn and their children; his mother; brothers- Steve and Doug; and his sisters- Brenda Bauld and Pam Wildes.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday Feb. 25 at 2 PM at the South Limington Free Baptist Church, 11 Moody Road, Limington.
