Obituary

PORTER- John Berry, age 65, passed away on Feb 14th 2018. He was born in Porter on October 28th 1952. He was the son of late Raymond Berry and Florence (Hoult) Berry.
John is survived by his sisters; Linda Day of Cornish and Lisa Hale of Porter and their families: Joe, Danielle and Jocelyn Day of Parsonsfield; Jerry Day and fiancée Samantha Thorne of Cornish. Cory Hale, fiancée Amanda Bradeen, their daughter Carlee Hale of Hiram, and Rudy, Justine, Tanner and Ethan Hale of Porter.
John grew up in Porter in the home his family built. Racing was John’s most cherished pastime and he spent every Saturday for many years at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, helping in only a way John Berry could, on any pit crew willing to accept his witty assistance. His days at Beech Ridge were his favorite past time, and he made it to every race possible until his body and health would no longer allow him to go.
John Berry also known around town as the Mayor of Kezar Falls or Rumly to some. His days were spent visiting Kezar Falls Market, Village Variety, Kezar Falls Hardware, the Parsonsfield Post Office and Porter Town Office. He was always helping folks around town by running errands, which gave him purpose to his walks. He spent many days on his Aunt Phyllis’s porch, and countless hours at Gardner Leavitt’s garage. Most Fridays he would walk to Gracie and Del Gilpatrick’s and the old Superintendents office. He was a special man full of wit, and charm and always had a wave for everyone. He loved racing, animals and the Boston Red Sox and lived by his daily routine of walking the street with his dog Sam, then Fee. He visited his sister Lisa’s house every day with a pocket full of treats for her many dogs over the years.
John was always “right out straight”.
