Obituary

CUMBERLAND- Richard Arthur Dunton, aged 71, passed away on February 11, 2018 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME. He was born February 17, 1946 to Arthur and Marjorie (Thayer) Dunton. As a young man Richard served on the Cumberland volunteer fire department. He enjoyed drag racing his Dodge Dart Swinger in the summer and downhill skiing in the winter. In July 1964 he was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at the St. John Convention in New Brunswick, Canada.
He began his career as a Union Ironworker helping build unique projects from a nuclear power plant in Wiscasset, ME to skyscrapers in Chicago. In 1974 Richard and his wife Judith moved to Key Largo, FL where he opened his own certified welding shop. Being a talented craftsman his work still graces some of the Florida Key’s most luxuriant homes today. In his off time Richard loved boating and was a certified SCUBA diver. In 2004, he returned to his family home in Cumberland Center, ME to help care for his ailing mother. During his life Richard made many lasting friendships and will always be known for his kindness and consideration towards others.
He is survived by his children Richard (Jacqueline) Dunton and Katy (Kevin) Stebbins, his sister June Dunton and his grandson, Matthew Dunton. A memorial service is scheduled for March 4, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 16 Town Farm Road, North Yarmouth, ME
