PARSONSFIELD- George Otis McCubrey, age 85, passed away on February 8, 2018, at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in South Portland, Maine on May 5, 1932, a son of the late Robert and Charlotte (Otis) McCubrey. He enjoyed spending time with his family in Porter, Maine during his growing up years.
After graduating from South Portland High School, George entered the Navy during the Korean War. Upon returning home he received a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Maine. He left Maine to pursue a career in the paper manufacturing industry as a professional engineer where he advanced into management positions. He was employed by Brown Company in NH, the Robert Gear division of Continental Can in New York, Regal Wood Pulp and Paper Company in North Carolina, Federal Paperboard in Connecticut and James River in Berlin, NH. He often returned to Maine to visit with his family and after retirement he moved back to Maine where he has enjoyed the familiar surroundings of his youth.
George had a passion for the outdoors where he enjoyed sailing, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, roller blading, deer hunting, duck hunting with his dogs, fishing, hiking, golfing, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He loved football and was always ready to talk about all things football especially with his family. He loved to read and in recent years he enjoyed researching information about WW1. Most of all he loved his children and his grandchildren, and was happiest when they were around him participating in activities or just visiting. Above everything else in his lifetime, he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
George was an active member of the Cornish United Church of Christ and enjoyed the fellowship he had with his church family.
He was predeceased by his brothers Richard , Donald and Robert, and a sister Barbara.
George is survived by his loving wife- Catherine (Warren) Perkoski McCubrey; his children- Gregg McCubrey of Sterling, CT; Timothy McCubrey of Murphys, CA; Gregory Perkoski of Parsonsfield; Christina Ramirez and her husband Carlos of Miami, FL; brother Philip of Nashua, NH; brother David of Porter; four grandchildren- Andrew and Alec Perkoski and Antony and Lucas Ramirez; and several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service will be held at George’ request.
