John Francis Sendley, born February 24, 1938, of Burrillville (formerly of Cumberland) passed away peacefully at R. I. Hospital on February 8, surrounded by his loving family, after a prolonged illness.
John was the devoted husband for 53 years of Diane E. Sendley. Beloved father of John S. Sendley, CPA, and his wife, Sylvia of Andover, CT, and Michael E. Sendley, Esq., and his wife, Heather, of Chepachet, RI. He was the loving “Papa” to Jake, Max, Alexa and Brooke Sendley and the step-granddad to Britney and Garet Bender. He was also Savannah’s step-great granddad.
Born in Cumberland, John was the son of the late Stanley Sendley and Stasia (Maslon) Sendley. He was one of two children and is survived by his loving sister, Lois (Mrs. James Keenan) of Cumberland.
A United States Navy veteran, John enlisted in 1955 after graduation from Cumberland High School, and served until his honorable discharge in 1959.
John was employed and retired after 42 years as a welder/pipefitter from Osram Sylvania (f/k/a Corning Glass Works) in Central Falls. He was an avid bowler and a serious INDY and NASCAR racing fan, an interest he enjoyed until his death.
John was a proud and devoted grandfather and nothing was more important than filling in for Mom and Dad to take the girls to ballet and dance, and the boys to hockey, baseball, and various other sports, and attending their school functions.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on John’s 80th birthday, Saturday, February 24, 2018, at 11:30am., at St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church Street, Slatersville. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Curran Road, Cumberland, at a later date.
