WESTBROOK – Susan Fay Brown, 76, passed away on February 9, 2018, in the care of Springbrook Center, and Compassus Hospice, from cancer.
She was born in Portland Maine on October 24, 1942, a daughter of Earl and Verna Harris. Susan spent her youth on a family farm in Westbrook, before moving to Portland 1958 where she graduated from Deering High School. She then met her husband David, and started a family. Susan was a collector; she procured an impressive vintage button collection, and displayed them beautifully. She loved to decorate, and was always creative. She had many pen pals, her favorite was Bonnie Gibbs of Minnesota whom she has written to for over 40 years. Susan loved to read and shop, she also love long rides in the country.
She is predeceased by her husband, David Lee Brown; Brothers Earl Jr., and Ralph (Buddy); sisters, Virginia Post, Betty Harris, Eleanor Greenlaw, and Lois Harris.
She is survived by her brother James Harris and wife Helen of Westbrook. Her children Jennifer Lee Maple of Poland, Julie Ann Brown-Zinchuk and husband Robert of Amelia Island, Florida, Karen Susan Brown of Portland, and Kathleen Sarah Brown of Portland. Her Grandchildren, Sebastian Robert Demers, Zachary David Higgins, and Ivan Alexander Zinchuk.
A special thank you to her niece Brenda Taxiarchis, and her husband Nick for all their love and support; and also to her friend Dana Smith for the endless hours he sat by her bedside, he was such a comfort to her. Her daughter Julie would like to send a special thank you to her mother’s friends at Spring Crossing in Westbrook for all their help and support. A small service will be planned for this summer.
