Obituary

Daniel B Spiegel, 85, of Franklin, and former resident of Medfield, died peacefully on Saturday, February 10th, with family by his side, at Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved wife of Joan E. (Zalmstra) Spiegel, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.

Born in New York City to Albert Spiegel and Theresa Aulander both deceased. Daniel attended public schools in Queens and Hofstra College, in New York. Daniel enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951.

Daniel served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war achieving rank of Communication Technician second class. While in the Navy he attended several military intelligence schools connected to the Naval Security Group. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

Following his service in the Navy, he worked as a claim agent for the New York Central Railroad and claim investigator for Lexington Insurance Company.

Daniel belonged to the VFW Post 3402 in Franklin, MA and the Military Intelligence Association of New England. He was also a member of the Improved Order of Red Men.

His hobbies included golf and enjoyed all the New England sports teams. When he retired, he volunteered at the Bungay Brook Golf Club as a starter.

In addition to his wife he is survived by sons Kevin Spiegel and wife Kathleen Madigan of Feasterville, PA, Ronald Spiegel and wife Pamela of Bernalillo, NM. His daughters Renee Noonan and husband Jack Noonan of Middleboro, MA and Patricia Montville wife of Richard and his grandsons Christopher, Connor and Joseph Montville.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, February 13th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home at 33 Cottage Street, Franklin, MA 02038. On Wednesday, February 14th, all are invited to attend the interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne MA at 11:15 am.
