U.S. Army Veteran

TEWKSBURY: Paul F. Byrne, age 76, a resident of Tewksbury for 43 years, formerly of the Allston area of Boston, passed away at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, with his family by his side, on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.

He was the beloved husband of Margaret A. “Midge”(Jelley) Byrne, with whom he would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on June 26, 2018.

Born in Boston on June 6, 1941, he was the son of the late Frederick J. and Winifred T. (Callaghan) Byrne.

Paul was raised in Allston, and attended Allston schools.

In 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with Company E, 1st Infantry Battalion while stationed in Korea. He was awarded several decorations including a Letter of Appreciation, the Marksman Badge, and the 2nd Class Gunner Badge.

Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was employed by the Town of Lexington Department of Public Works.

Paul was a proud veteran and was a member of the Tewksbury DAV Post # 110.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kelly A. Farias and her husband Michael of Tewksbury; three grandchildren, Michaela, Paul, and Shannon Farias; his sister, Arlene Plachowicz and her husband Stanley of Ayer; also many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Paul was the brother of the late Winifred Morris, Mary Pat McHugh, Fred, James, Edward, John, Robert, and Franny Byrne.

Calling hours are Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral procession will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, 200 Springs Road, Bedford, MA 01730.
