Madeline M. Spires, 95, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, February 9, 2018, at Pruitt Health in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Sunday, February 11, 2018, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Lanier Roberts and the Rev. Bud Womack officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday.
Mrs. Spires was born November 4, 1922, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late Tildun & Dora Murphy. She was a homemaker and lived in the community all of her life. Mrs. Spires loved to work in her garden and enjoyed cooking and fishing. She was a devoted lady who loved her God and was of the Church of God faith.
She is survived by a daughter, Evelain Halley of Americus; a son, Edward Eugene Spires and his wife Pat of Baudette, Minnesota; a daughter-in-law, Pat Spires of Fitzgerald; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Samuel Spires; two sons, Robert Lee Spires, who was killed in Vietnam, and Fred Tildun Spires, Sr.; a granddaughter, Marie Halley; and a sister, Fannie Mae Hatten.
