Geraldine M. “Gerry” (Delaney) Riordan, age 88, lifelong of Brockton, died peacefully, February 7, 2018 at Signature Healthcare-Brockton Hospital. She was the loving wife for 53 years of the late Thomas M. Riordan and youngest daughter of the late Timothy J. and Hazel R. (Hubbard) Delaney. Gerry was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1947 and was a member of its’ Reunion Committee. She graduated from Carney Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 as a Registered Nurse and worked at Brockton Hospital from 1950-1968. From 1968-1992, she was employed by the Town of Randolph as a Visiting Nurse and Public Health Nurse and retired after 24 years as a Nursing Supervisor. Gerry was well known as a Toe Tap Dancer in her earlier days and had been a member of the Harry Swan Revue Troupe which entertained many servicemen throughout the area during World War II.
Gerry was a former member of St. Richard’s Guild of Catholic Nurses, Irelands Own of Brockton, and was a lifelong communicant of St. Colman Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Legion of Mary. She had resided at Emmanuel House in Brockton for the last 4 years where she made many friends. In her later years, she was cared for by her beloved niece, Joanne Terry.
Gerry is survived by several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great grand nieces and nephews. She was the youngest of ten children and was the sister of the late Mary Rose Silva, Dorothy Delaney, Joseph Delaney, Eleanor Yociz, Hazel Sabina, Roseanna McGlone, William Delaney, Patricia (Belcher) Preti and Theresa Barris.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Sunday, February 11, 2-5pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Monday at 9:30am for a Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church at 10:30am, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.
