John Fortes, Jr., 89, of New Bedford died February 7, 2018 unexpectedly at home.
He was the husband of the late Margaret "Chickie" (Martin) Fortes.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and Estefania (Faria) Fortes, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Fortes was formerly employed by Revere Copper & Brass for many years until his retirement.
He enjoyed jazz music, travel and Foxwoods Casino.
Mr. Fortes served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his 2 sisters, Doris Carmo of Dartmouth and Irene Ramos of Milford, CT; his granddaughter, Alison; his sister-in-law, Mary "Bea" Fortes of New Bedford; his niece who was like his daughter, Jacqueline Barboza and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Nancy Pires and the brother of the late Paul Fortes and Ethel "Tillie" Lima.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 16th at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 15th from 4-7 PM.
