Obituary

William A. "Bubi" Gomes, 83, of Randolph, formerly of New Bedford passed away Tuesday, February 06, 2018 at the Blue Hills Health and Rehab Center in Stoughton peacefully.
He was the husband of the late Barbara (Andrade) Gomes.
Born August 27, 1934 in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Domingo "Mingo" and Rose "SheShe" (Gonsalves) Gomes.
Bubi was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge he began his college career, he was a graduate of Bristol Community College. He began his career as Director Affirmative Action for the City of Cambridge, until retirement.
Bubi was a longtime resident of Randolph and a highly regarded figure in the community. He served as a Board Member for the Town of Randolph Housing Authority.
He was a Past Master of Union Lodge No. 4 F.&A.M., and a member of St. Phillip's Chapter No. 3 HRAM, Holy Sepulchre Consistory No. 17 AASR, Syria Temple No. 31 AEAONMS, J.W. Hood Chapter No. 12 OES and Mt. Moriah Chapter No. 7, OES. He was a Grand Inspector General, the highest honor in AASR.
He loved all things Cape Verdean, Music, Food and attending Social Affairs in New Bedford with his friends from Boston.
He is survived by his three brothers, John Gomes and wife Christine of Marion, Alan and David Gomes, both of New Bedford; two sisters, Cheryl Rose Walwyn of New Bedford and Rosemary Castro of North Dartmouth. Bubi will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the eldest of his siblings, brother of the late Joyce P Medina, Vivian J. Vieira and Melvin E. Gomes.
He will be remembered for his love of family, and his constant faith in God. His favorite song and quote was "I Did It My Way" by Frank Sinatra.
His family will receive guests on Monday, February 12th from 10 - 11 AM followed by his Funeral Service at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boys & Girls Club-New Bedford 166 Jenney Street New Bedford, MA 02740.
