SHREWSBURY- Gertrud “Trudy” Fennell, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving children. She was 97 years old. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, SSgt George Nixon Fennell who passed away in 1958.
Trudy was born and raised in Mannheim, Germany. She attended local schools and worked as a telephone operator. She and her husband moved their young family to the United States where she began working as a bookkeeper. Following her retirement, she kept active by offering companionship and care to the elderly.
Trudy enjoyed reading, playing games on her iPad and watching the Animal Planet Channel. She traveled extensively, having visited Hawaii, California, Las Vegas, the Caribbean and Europe. She also enjoyed doing German crossword puzzles and playing solitaire and Uno. She was a member of the Boylston Schul-Verein German American Singing Club.
Her family will always think of her when they smell Chanel No. 5 and will forever miss her homemade tomato soup. Left to always remember her warmth and compassion are her children Gerald Fennell of Norwood, Patryzia Fennell-Gandy and her husband Charles of Oak Bluffs and George N. Fennell Jr. of Shrewsbury. Also, her grandchildren Marcus Ganjemi, Nicole O’Dwyer-Fennell, and Pria Fennell; great grandchildren Angel Lena, Tatianna and Marcus; great-great grandchild, Jaylani; brother-in-law Paul Fennell of Decatur, GA and nieces and nephews from Georgia, North Carolina, and Washington, DC.
Family and friends will gather to honor, remember and celebrate her life on Saturday, February 10th from 10:00am until 11:00am at CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester, with a funeral service to begin at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, 355 Walk Hill St., Boston, MA 01231.
