FRYEBURG- Herman Charles Heald, Jr went to heaven peacefully on Saturday February 3, 2018 while at the Hospice House in Auburn, Maine. He turned 94 in December.
He was the eldest of six siblings born to Marion and Herman C. Heald, Sr on December 7, 1923 in North Chatham, New Hampshire.
He proudly served his country in the Army from 1944 to 1946 leaving with an Honorable Discharge and a Purple Heart.
After only knowing his wife, Dorothy Danforth Drew, for only fifty-seven days, they were married on September 29, 1945 (while he was on leave) and would have celebrated their 50th anniversary on September 29th 1995 had she not passed in February of that year.
After he was out of the Army they moved to Fryeburg and made their home in that little town and raised their two daughters.
He worked for Osgood's Springmont Farms in Fryeburg delivering milk door to door in the area and often putting their order in their refrigerators. Later went to work for Oakhurst Dairy at first doing the same delivery and his wife, Dot, would ride shotgun with him and help with the door to door deliveries. He later went on to drive the bulk truck to the Oakhurst Dairy Plant in Portland to load up and bring the milk back to his home where the delivery drivers would load their local trucks and do their deliveries,
He and his wife later moved to Bridgton, Maine as the plant had built a large cooler there and it would be closer for him. Retiring after 28 yrs with Oakhurst he worked for a small lumber mill in Bridgton for a short time.
He was an active member of the Mt. Etna Grange in Baldwin for several years, the Paugus Grange in Fryeburg and also the VFW in Lovell.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, his parents, his three younger brothers Merle, Philip and Fred and his only sister Mary Heald Benson.
He is survived by his two loving daughters, Betty Ann Sargent and friend Frank of Rumford and Marion and husband “Buzz”Brine of Fryeburg (with whom he has resided for the past 17 years before his death).
Others include his only surviving sibling out of six his youngest brother, Russell who resides in Santa Rosa, California.
His only granddaughter Marcie and her husband Bob Bean of Casco, his two grandsons Tony Sargent of Bridgton and Michael Sargent of Naples.
He has five great grandchildren Cody and Kyle Bean of Casco, Brandon and Brianna Sargent of Naples and Beneka Lawrence of Raymond. Three great-great grandchildren Emma, Aiden and Isaiah Lawrence of Raymond.
Also, several nieces, nephews and friends he has made over the years some calling him “Grampa Jun,”
The family would like to send a huge thank you out to Androscoggin Hospice and Home Care for the exceptional care they gave to our very special Dad while he was at home and then at the Hospice House and to us during his stay.
As per his request there will be no service and only a private family burial in the spring.
